What You Should Know Before You Arrive

Terminal 1 has been designed so that your journey from kerbside to gate can be made entirely step-free. Lifts and gently graded routes connect every level, so there is no need to negotiate stairs or escalators at any point if you would prefer not to.

Accessible toilets are available across both the departures and arrivals levels, and accessible parking sits close to the terminal with designated drop-off points positioned near the main entrance — ideal if someone is bringing you to the airport and you would like assistance from the moment you arrive.

Passenger assistance is coordinated directly through your airline rather than the airport itself. When arranged in advance, this can include wheelchair assistance from the kerbside all the way through to check-in, so it is worth contacting your carrier before you travel.

Assistance animals are welcome throughout the terminal, with relief facilities provided for their comfort. The airport also participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme, allowing staff to quietly recognise when a traveller may need a little more time or support, and Changing Places facilities are available where provided for those who need them.

Concierge Recommendations
01

Most travellers naturally remain near the central concourse after security. Seating toward the eastern side of the departures level is generally quieter before major international departure waves.

02

If you require airport assistance, arriving before peak morning check-in periods generally reduces waiting time for staff support.

03

If travelling with an assistance animal, plan time to use the designated relief facilities before boarding if required.

04

Travellers requiring mobility assistance should consider arranging airline support at least 48 hours before departure to ensure a smoother arrival experience.

Before You Travel

Thoughtful guidance you can act on before you leave home.

Contact your airline at least 48 hours before departure if you require wheelchair or mobility assistance.

If someone is dropping you off, use the accessible drop-off area so airport staff can assist from kerbside.

Download the terminal map before arriving if you would like to familiarise yourself with the layout.

If you have a hidden disability, consider requesting or wearing a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard so airport staff can more easily recognise that additional assistance may be required.

If travelling independently, allow additional time before boarding to comfortably move through security and reach your departure gate.
